Maccabi Canada Presents: Take Me Out to a Ball Game: A Conversation with Team Israel’s 2B Ty Kelly

Recorded LIVE on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 7:00 PM

Ty Kelly is the second baseman for Israel’s Olympic Baseball Team. A former Major League Baseball player, Ty’s career spanned from 2016-2019 and included time with the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Philadelphia Phillies. On the  international scene, Ty first represented Israel at the 2017 World Baseball Classic, where he helped the 41st ranked Israel stun the baseball world with victories over powerhouses South Korea, Chinese Taipei, the Netherlands and Cuba. Following the World Baseball Classic, Ty joined Team Israel two more times in 2019: at the European Baseball Championship and then at the Olympic Qualification tournament. A victory in the latter tournament led to Israel qualifying for the 2020 (now 2021) Olympic Games in Tokyo. Off the field, Ty has become a staunch advocate for the rights of Minor League Baseball players, leading a movement to ensure that they are not neglected during the COVID-19 crisis and as well, once the baseball season resumes.
